Being…Alone

They’d see her eating alone or taking solo trips and feel sorry for her.

They thought she couldn’t find someone to keep her company or that she must not have had friends..

What they never seemed to understand that she chose to do some things by herself- for herself.

She was perfectly content to enjoy her own company and seek out adventures that she enjoyed more by herself.

It puzzled her friends at times, why this vivacious and outgoing woman did so many things by herself.

They would rationalize her choice to be alone at times…

Thinking she was soul searching,

Maybe she was depressed.

Perhaps she was lonely.

It never occurred to most that she just enjoyed her own company.

She didn’t need someone by her side to love her life and revel in the beautiful moments that captured her attention every day.

She was free to make her own choices, eat the food she wanted, go to the places she liked.

Her wild heart and fierce spirit had never done well in captivity - and that quality was hard for many men to fathom..

They wanted to control her and tame her wildness instead of running beside her into adventure.

She’d been down those roads before and chose a different path:

One of contentment and happiness.

She didn’t ask for anyone to understand her choices because she didn’t need approval or permission..

That was part of the freedom of her own company that most never got:

She didn’t answer to anyone and she could do as she wanted, when she wanted, how she wanted.

She’d often welcome friends and partners by her side, but she’d just as often enjoy her days solo.

She listened to her heart and did the things that filled her soul.

It was her life and her happiness and she was always more than happy to share it with others…

But she was just as happy to enjoy her own company.

That didn’t mean she was lonely, different or difficult.

It meant that she was happy with herself and her choices.

And because of that, she would always be free.
